FAQ

Questions You May Have

Why do I need treatment?

Every individual experience both physical and emotional strain as we go about our daily activities. When we are well, a healthy immune system and our normal system of tissue repair means that we cope with this with minimal problem. However, an overload of these systems due to factors such as prolonged repetitive activities or long-term stress mean that our body may begin to cope less well. This is where treatment can help.

What should I expect on initial consultation?

Your initial consultation will begin with a comprehensive history, covering details of the current problem and your previous medical history. If you take medication, or have information such as MRI results, please also bring these. The history enables an osteopath to start to formulate a diagnosis but is also important in helping decide which types of treatment may or may not be suitable for you as an individual. Following this, a physical assessment takes place which allows thorough investigation.

What is the treatment like?

Treatment usually consists of soft tissue or massage type stretches, joint articulation, and mobilisation and when suitable, joint manipulation. Postural advice, lifestyle advice or stretches may be discussed to help your progress. Whilst treatment is not usually painful, you may sometimes feel slight discomfort for up to 24 hours after a first treatment as your body adjusts, this will be explained on an individual basis so you will know what to expect following treatment.

What should I wear?

It is important that you feel comfortable, so you may want to wear loose pants or bring a pair of shorts to change into. A gown can also be offered by the practitioner, for the patient to wear. It really depends on what area of the body is requiring treatment, you may be asked to undress to your underwear, but you will be covered by a gown and towels the entire time of the treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

Generally, you would expect to see some changes in your symptoms after one or two visits; however, some long-term or chronic conditions may require a longer course or more frequent treatment.

Do I need a referral from my GP?

No, you can make an appointment directly. If you have been diagnosed with a chronic medical condition and require complex care, you may be eligible for an Enhanced Primary Clare Plan or GP Management plan assistance. In this case, your GP must complete a special referral form to refer you to an Osteopath for treatment.

Can I get a Medicare rebate for Osteopathy?

The answer is yes. However, you need to be diagnosed by your GP who will create a care plan for you. Usually the criteria is being in persistent pain (more than 3 months) that has significantly impacted your ability to function on a daily basis.

How does the Medicare rebate work?

You will need to pay the full fee upfront using your Medicare card to allow you access to your rebate. When the rebate is accepted, you will receive the refund ($60.35) to your nominated bank account.

Bulk Billing?

We do not bulk bill at our clinic. You will need to pay a gap fee.

Why a Gap Fee?

At All Well Holistic Health, we believe in the quality of our services and we treat all our patients with the same high level of care. If you have been experiencing pain for a long time, it will be difficult to ‘fix’ it overnight and it will take time to make sure you are receiving the right treatment approach and the right strategies to help you. Therefore, we give you the time and the care you need to move forward with your condition. Our initial consultation last for 60min and our return consultation is 45min and as a small clinic we are unable to offer bulk billing in conjunction with the time and passion for achieving quality care – We hope you understand!

How many visits the Medicare care plan covers?

Usually up to 5 visits per calendar year, which can be referred to multiple allied health professional depending on your need: such as Osteopathy, Physiotherapy, Podiatry, Dietitian etc. You are not locked in with one pracititioner, and you can also ask your GP to change practitioner along the way as required.
